The Aspen fence in this iconic photograph taken in 1987 is no longer there, having been replaced by a barbed wire fence to keep hunters off private property. The highway turnout on Dallas Divide from which thousands of pictures have been taken, was closed to all but trucks checking their brakes and emergency vehicles. So many people stopped to admire this spectacular view that the turnout became clogged with vehicles. Walking along the shoulder of the highway from a parking area 1/4 mile below the turnoff is not advised. So now, everybody takes a less dramatic picture from that parking area below.
